이곳은 1919년 3월 1일, 탑골공원의 정문 ‘삼일문’ 앞에서 학생과 시민이 모여 독립선언서를 읽고 대한독립만세를 외치며 시위가 시작된 역사적 장소입니다. 삼일문은 탑골공원의 정문으로, 당시 만세 시위가 열린 공식 출입구 역할을 했던 공간입니다.
Samilmun Gate, Tapgol Park
This location marks the historical site where, on March 1st, 1919, Korean students and citizens gathered in front of Samilmun — the main gate of Tapgol Park — to read the Declaration of Independence and shout ‘Manse!’ (Long live Korean independence), beginning the March 1st Movement. Samilmun served as the main entrance to Tapgol Park and was the starting point of the peaceful demonstrations that ignited Korea’s nationwide independence movement against Japanese colonial rule.
