이곳 여옥사는 1918년 일제가 여성 독립운동가를 별도 수감하기 위해 신축한 공간으로, 유관순 열사 등 많은 여성이 이곳에 수감되어 고초를 겪은 역사적 장소입니다
Seodaemun Prison – Women’s Detention Building (Yeo-ok-sa)
This building, constructed in 1918 during the Japanese colonial rule, was used to imprison Korean women who participated in the independence movement. It was built specifically to detain female activists separately. Many women, including the well-known patriot Yu Gwan-sun, were imprisoned and suffered harsh treatment here. The building remains a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by women in Korea’s struggle for independence.
