Former Site of Yusimsa (Yusim Publishing House)
This site once housed Yusimsa, the publishing space where Buddhist monk and independence activist Han Yong-un (Manhae) launched the cultural and Buddhist magazine Yusim in 1918. It served as a symbolic center of Buddhist intellectual activity and played a key role in mobilizing Buddhist support for the March 1st Independence Movement. "On the night of February 28, 1919, just days before the movement began, Han Yong-un gathered students from the Central Buddhist Academy here. He explained the contents of the Declaration of Independence and coordinated its distribution, making this location a pivotal launching point of Korea’s nonviolent resistance against Japanese colonial rule.
