Pagoda Pavilion at Tapgol Park
The Pagoda Pavilion at Tapgol Park was the starting point of public resistance during the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919. It was here that students and citizens gathered to read the Korean Declaration of Independence and shouted “Long live Korean independence!” before beginning a protest march. Located at the center of the park alongside the Ten-Story Stone Pagoda of Wongaksa (National Treasure No. 2), the pavilion remains a symbolic monument of Korea’s modern public space and a powerful reminder of the nation’s fight for independence.
