이곳 보신각 앞 광장은 1919년 3·1운동 당일, 시위 군중이 종을 치며 평화적 만세운동의 시작을 알린 서울지역 독립운동의 구심점으로 기능했던 장소입니다
Bosingak Bell Pavilion Square
The square in front of the Bosingak Bell Pavilion served as a symbolic focal point during the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919. On the day of the protest, demonstrators rang the bell to signal the beginning of the peaceful “Manse” (Hurrah for Independence) demonstrations throughout Seoul. Historically used to mark time during the Joseon Dynasty, the bell was repurposed in 1919 as a rallying cry for national liberation. Today, the site stands as a powerful reminder of the unity and resolve shown by Korean citizens during their peaceful resistance against Japanese colonial rule.
