서대문형무소 사형장은 일제강점기 수많은 독립운동가들이 형이 집행되던 공간으로, 처형 후 시신을 내보내던 ‘시구문’이 함께 남아 식민 권력의 폭력 구조를 드러낸다.
Seodaemun Prison Execution Site
The execution site at Seodaemun Prison was where numerous Korean independence activists were executed during the Japanese colonial period. Adjacent to the execution area is the sigumun (“corpse gate”), through which the bodies of those executed were secretly removed. This stark space exposes the brutal mechanisms of colonial power and stands today as a solemn reminder of the violence inflicted on those who fought for Korea’s freedom.
